PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR CHILDREN
I provide psychotherapy, counselling and EMDR trauma therapy to children from 10 years and upwards, using art and play materials.

WHERE TO START
Prior to seeing your child, we will meet for an initial family assessment appointment where I can gain a detailed understanding of the nature of your child’s difficulties. This process may take a few sessions, including one just with your child. I will then provide a professional opinion as to how best to move forward.
This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions, see if I am the right therapist for you and your child and confirm you are all happy with my professional assessment and suggested therapy.
In the unlikely event that I am unable to provide therapy to your child, I will do my best to help with alternative options.

MY duty of care
My sessions with your child are confidential and my dealings with you as parents or legal guardian are equally confidential.
I adhere to confidential boundaries and do not share information unless it is otherwise agreed beforehand. Such boundaries are essential to the therapeutic process.
Therapeutic work with children is most successful when both parents or legal guardian agree to engage with the therapeutic process. This can also be done with only one parent’s involvement. We will meet to review our work together periodically as necessary.
Sometimes it is necessary to work with a parent/parents on specific issues before I work with your child. This may take some sessions.
The length of your child’s therapy will greatly depend on the severity and length of their distress.
You do need to know that I have a duty of care and safeguarding towards your child. This means if they tell me they or someone else is in danger of serious harm, I have a duty to report this. For more information, please see my Privacy Policy.
WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

REVIEW AND ENDINGS
Your child and I will continue to review our therapeutic progress at suitable intervals, and if agreed with your child, we will also arrange parental reviews as and when necessary.
Your child can end any time they wish, but we will need to agree some time to complete our work. Ending therapy might take a few sessions. This is to ensure that your child is not left in a vulnerable place. I suggest a minimum of 3 sessions to work through our ending together and say goodbye. It might then be helpful to have a parental review and ending as well.
ASSESSMENT AND WORKING AGREEMENT
Before child psychotherapy or EMDR can take place, I will send you my initial assessment questionnaire, working agreement, terms and conditions, and my privacy statement. These documents must be completed and signed and will ensure that we work together safely and ethically.
